Amal Clooney (née Alamuddin) was born in Beirut in 1978 to a Lebanese Druse family that later settled in the United Kingdom. She trained as a barrister and built a career in international and human-rights law, appearing before bodies such as the International Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights.

Her work has included representing journalists, former heads of state, and survivors of genocide and war crimes, and advising on accountability for atrocities. She co-founded a foundation dedicated to justice and human rights.

As one of the most visible figures of Lebanese Druse descent in the world today, she is frequently cited as an example of the community's reach in international law and public life.
